Thematic Semesters

The thematic semester ML-LYSE will take place in Lyon and Saint-Etienne sites between spring 2021 and spring 2022 and will be based on the main themes represented in machine learning and data analysis.

Computer algebra, a.k.a. symbolic computation, is a broad transdisciplinary area which aims at computerizing mathematics, i.e. solving exactly mathematical problems, using computers. Hence, it encompasses effective mathematics in algebra, analysis, geometry and number theory, the design of algorithms, the study of their complexities, their implementations and their use in applications, as well as software system aspects to manipulate and encode efficiently mathematical objects.

This thematic quarter in responses aims to bring together mathematicians from several fields of probability theory around two workshops and a mini-school.

The thematic semester Graphs, Groups and Dynamics aims to understand simple systems of an algebraic, combinatorial and dynamic nature in mathematics, physics and computer science, through techniques that exploit the interactions between spectral analysis, ergodic theory and combinatorics. The objective is to facilitate collaboration between researchers in these fields and to provide a meeting place for exchanging ideas and techniques.

This thematic period aims to provide an overview of the current state of research in calculus of variations, optimal transport theory, and geometric theory of measurement, through two summer schools and an international conference.
